Because we count

OUR MISSION

AfroMundo is dedicated to fostering civic engagement, building radical solidarity, and promoting wellbeing amongst Afro-Latinx, Afro-Indigenous, Afro-Asian, BIPOC, and 2SLGBTQIA+ peoples via interactive, community-building arts and humanities programs.

OUR VISION

Narratives are foundational to every aspect of our lives. Narratives are what inform history, religion, culture, class, race, as well as political, economic, education, health policies, and much more. Narratives are what empower some and disenfranchise others.

AfroMundo’s vision is to connect diasporic communities, foster alliances, and provide a visible platform from which we share our narratives towards a common goal of advancing equity, healing, joy, and hope.

INDIGENOUS LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT

For thousands of years, New Mexico was home to the Diné, Pueblos of Acoma, Cochiti, Isleta, Jemez, Laguna, Nambe, Ohkay Owingeh, Picuris, Pojoaque, Sandia, San Felipe, San Ildefonso, Santa Ana, Santa Clara, Santo Domingo, Taos, Tesuque, Zuni, and Zia, and the Fort Sill Apache Tribe, the Jicarilla Apache Nation, and the Mescalero Apache Tribe.

These lands continue to be home to many Indigenous Peoples, who constitute 14.5 percent of New Mexico's current population. The AfroMundo Collective is grateful to have the opportunity to gather on this land and vows to be inclusive of Indigenous Peoples as we pursue our mission of radical solidarity.
